From performing show tunes on stage to solving complex software challenges for the U.S. Navy, Lindsay White’s path since graduating from 91直播 Wesleyan University has been productive and exciting. A talented member of the Class of 2022, Lindsay exemplifies the spirit of a Marlin—versatile, passionate, and ever-curious.
At VWU, White majored in mathematics while pursuing what she refers to as a “pseudo-minor” in mechanical engineering through the university’s partnership with Old Dominion University (ODU). But her academic journey didn’t stop there. In May 2024, she added another milestone to her already impressive resume: a Master of Science in Modeling and Simulation Engineering from ODU.
Today, White serves as a software engineer with the U.S. Navy at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division's Dam Neck Activity. There, she not only tackles technical challenges but has also made her mark as a creative problem-solver. Most recently, she was named the winner of the inaugural DNA Innovation Challenge—an event modeled after Shark Tank, where she successfully pitched a novel solution aimed at enhancing Navy training systems.
During her years at 91直播 Wesleyan, White was a Batten Honors College scholar and active in nearly every corner of campus life. She sang in all three university choirs—Bravura, Camerata, and Vox Vera—performed in several theatre productions including “Legally Blonde,” the “SpongeBob Musical,” and “Musical Revue” and participated in Marlin Ministries and intramural sports such as flag football, basketball, and spike ball.
However, it's not the accolades or busy schedule she remembers most fondly—it’s the spontaneous, joy-filled moments with friends that left the deepest mark.
“I will always cherish the memories made and the knowledge gained on my two study away trips with VWU—one to Israel and one to England,” she reflects. “But my favorite memories on campus were always the impromptu ones—when we turned V4 into a giant slip-and-slide and the whole village was outside together laughing and having fun; when the power went out across campus and we all played hide and seek in Greer; running around campus with my friends covered in mud after mud games.”
White credits much of her growth to the mentorship and support of VWU faculty.
“ 91直播whole math department was instrumental in fostering my love for and growth in math—Dr. Kennedy, Dr. Burney, Dr. Reese, and Dr. Malagon,” she says. “Dr. Malone was a huge encouragement for me, encouraging me to pursue my passions academically and personally. And I would be remiss not to mention VWU’s resident joy-giver on campus, Dr. Lindvall, who never failed to make me both ponder the deep questions of life and laugh at the simple things.”
As she looks ahead, White is excited for what’s next—both personally and professionally. In October, she will marry fellow VWU alumnus CJ Morris, who she affectionately calls “the greatest thing I got out of VWU.” She also plans to continue advancing in her career with the Navy, bringing innovation to everything she does and continuing to makes waves in the spheres she touches.
